First Dust Storm

Dust everywhere! The dust storm that hit on Tuesday night was a first for Tyson and I. Luckily, we were all at home and didn't have to drive in the storm. Below are a few photos we snapped Wednesday morning...and after a few days of cleaning, it is still dusty in our yard.

Happy Birthday America! We escaped 118 degree weather in the Phoenix area to cooler temperatures (and even some rain) at the cabin. It was a fun and relaxing weekend...minus the firework show that was cancelled due to the bad fires Arizona has had this summer.

Summer

is great! We've been enjoying morning walks, playground fun, swimming, yard work (Tyson is a big helper...he loves to throw away stuff outside and sweep the rocks), and a recent weekend trip to the cabin.

Monday, Monday

Monday is a big deal in our household because it's Garbage Truck Day! Tyson's in a truck phase and his favorites are garbage trucks and cement mixer trucks. He has been counting down the days since last Monday...

Waiting For Superman

If you want to know more about what is taking place in our public school system today, check out the documentary, Waiting For Superman. I highly recommend it! I believe it will open your eyes and push you to reflect on your own educational history, as well as, challenge you to think about our public school system and what role you want to play in it. Below is a video conversation from the director, Davis Guggenheim.

What I like about this documentary is that it highlights that our nation's education system has problems that are vast, complex, urgent, and difficult to solve. The bottom line is that the system is broken and not every student in our country is receiving an excellent education. What our public school system needs TODAY are great teachers, prepared students, excellent schools, and increased literacy.
